Everything ran smoothly, from being picked up at the airports, hotel accommodations, tours taken in each city, as well as terrific English speaking guides.
Fred is a perfectionist and treats his clients professionally.
It was a very secure feeling to know that we could contact the company on a 24/7 basis in case of any problems. We felt very comfortable and should we go to Argentina again, Fred would be the only person we would call to plan a perfectly executed customized trip.

We highly recommend Exploration Journeys as the way to travel in Argentina!"
DAY 1: YOU ARRIVE IN BUENOS AIRES (staying for 2 nights, with 1 tour included) |
Flight arrival in Buenos Aires, Argentina! Welcome at the airport and transfer in private vehicle to your hotel. |
| Buenos Aires City Tour: the highlights of Buenos Aires are its architectural and cultural richness. Known as "The Paris of South America", Buenos Aires has definitely an European look, yet reveals its "Latino" roots with its outgoing people and never-ending nightlife. We will take you to discover the most important highlights of this cosmopolitan city. For your convenience our Buenos Aires group city tour is done only in English (no simultaneous English/Spanish speaking guide) and it is done in small groups therefore providing a much higher quality experience than any other Buenos Aires group city tour. This tour is done in the afternoon (3 hours). |
DAY 2: BUENOS AIRES |
|
A Day in the Life of a Gaucho: Santa Susana Ranch You’re invited to experience a day in the life of a “gaucho” at beautiful Estancia Santa Susana. This is a perfect opportunity to get out of the city and explore the Argentinean countryside, with the natural surroundings of the Argentine Pampas (region of very fertile plains). As you tour the facilities of the estancia (ranch), you’ll get a first-person glimpse of the gaucho’s life in its heyday. The “gaucho” is the Argentinean equivalent of a North American “cowboy”, and has traditionally been the primary laborer on Argentine estancias (or ranches). Gauchos flourished in the mid-18th century; since then, the gaucho has become a central symbol of Argentine tradition. You’ll also have the chance to hop on the gaucho’s most prized possession: his horse! You can either choose to do a very short ride on the horse, or take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage. You’ll learn about the Gaucho’s work and customs, as well as enjoy a traditional Argentine barbecue, also known as “asado”. Argentina is famous for its beef. After lunch, enjoy a Tango and Folklore show with some time to relax before afternoon activities. Witness a mesmerizing boleadoras show performed by a gaucho. Boleadoras are traditional throwing weapons used by gauchos, designed to capture animals by entangling their legs (made of weights on the ends of interconnected cords, and used to capture animals by entangling their legs). This is a full-day group tour and includes lunch with non-alcoholic beverages & wine. The pickup for this tour is at the hotel but on the return transfer the company organizing the transfer offers different stops in central areas of the city. |
DAY 3: LAST DAY IN BUENOS AIRES |
Transfer in private vehicle to Buenos Aires Airport. |
DAY 3: YOU ARRIVE IN IGUAZU (staying for 2 nights, with 1 tour included) |
Flight arrival in Iguazu. |
DAY 4: IGUAZU |
|
Witness the Unique Power & Might of the Iguazu Falls from the Argentine Side (private tour) “You might have seen the photos. Even read about it. You might have visited other great waterfalls before. But you probably still have no idea what to expect when you come face to face with the almighty Iguazu Falls,” stated CNN in their article “Iguazu Falls: Why this natural wonder should be on everyone’s bucket list". To put that into perspective, Iguazu Falls is nearly twice as tall as Niagara Falls and nearly three times as wide. The late U.S. First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, was reportedly so impressed by the sight of Iguazu Falls that she exclaimed “Poor Niagara!” In 1984, Iguazu Falls became a UNESCO World Heritage Site; and in 2011, it was selected as one of the 7 winners of the “New Seven Wonders of Nature” worldwide competition in which more than 100 million votes were cast. Their size and scale are unlike any other waterfall on Earth. Made up of a system of 275 waterfalls, they have a staggering water flow of up to almost 3.5 million gallons (13 million liters) per second – enough to fill five Olympic swimming pools! Unlike Niagara Falls, which is surrounded by developments such as casinos, a revolving restaurant, and coffee shops, Iguazu Falls are located within one of the few remaining inland rainforests in South America, the Atlantic rainforest, which is a haven for more than 2,000 plant species, about 400 birds species, and 80 types of mammals! This is a full-day private tour. |
DAY 5: LAST DAY IN IGUAZU |
Transfer in group vehicle to Iguazu airport. |
DAY 5: YOU ARRIVE IN PENINSULA VALDES (staying for 3 nights, with 4 tours included) |
Flight arrival and transfer in group vehicle to your hotel. |
DAY 6: PENINSULA VALDES |
|
Peninsula Valdes’ Unique Marine Fauna Heaven Peninsula Valdes is one of the largest marine wildlife reserves in the entire world, and a prime spot for viewing a diverse collection of wildlife. It was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because of its global significance as a marine wildlife refuge for several threatened species. The scenic Peninsula Valdes, where arid landscapes contrast with the blue crystalline sea, is home to an important breeding population of the endangered southern Right Whale (whale season takes place from June to early December), southern sea lions, orcas (also known as “killer whales”), Magellanic penguins (penguin season is from mid-September to early April), as well as the largest continental colony of southern elephant seals in the entire world. National Geographic listed the Peninsula Valdes as one of the 10 best places in the world for whale-watching. The inner part of the peninsula boasts rheas, guanacos (American Llama), hairy armadillos, ostriches and maras (very similar to hares). A high diversity and range of birds live in the peninsula as well; at least 181 species.
This is a full-day group tour. |
|
An up-close encounter with the giant Southern Right Whale Learn why National Geographic lists Peninsula Valdes as one of the 10 best places in the world for whale-watching. We’ll embark on a whale-watching adventure to get up-close and personal with one of the largest mammals on Earth: the Southern Right Whale! One of the world’s rarest species of whale, the Southern Right Whale got its name because of the nature of its personality: easy to approach, friendly, and yielding large volumes of oil; making it therefore the “right” whale to hunt! These whales are one of the more interactive whale species as they are usually on the water’s surface, which makes for a great viewing experience. They are very safe to approach and are often curious about boats passing by. They are playful and can be seen exhibiting unique behavior such as “sailing”, where they use their elevated tails to catch the wind; “lobtailing”, slapping it on the water; “headstanding,” where they rise in a vertical position with their head high above the air; and the most exciting, “breaching” where the whale jumps out of the water spinning, and landing with a huge splash! We will spend approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes navigating before returning to the port.
This is a group tour done on the same day as the Peninsula Valdes tour. |
DAY 7: PENINSULA VALDES |
|
An Up-Close & Personal Experience Walking among the Cute Magellanic Penguins Get ready for a delightful encounter with some of the cutest and most charismatic creatures on the planet: the Magellanic penguins! Punta Tombo Reserve is home to the world’s largest colony of Magellanic penguins, giving you the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with over a hundred thousand of these adorable creatures, which are only found on the Falkland Islands and the coasts of Argentina and Chile. This is a long half-day group tour (the visit to the Punta Tombo Magellanic Penguins reserve lasts 2 hours), but it’s usually combined with at least 1 other tour option in the area making it a full-day tour. |
|
Navigating to Discover the Dazzling Acrobatics of the Panda Dolphin Prepare to embark on a navigation adventure in the Patagonian Sea, to discover the beautiful black-and-white Panda Dolphins. Known for their playful behavior and electrifying speed, this super cute dolphin is very rare to see, as it is found in two spots on Earth: Patagonia, and near a very remote island in the Indian Ocean. The Panda Dolphin is very active, and is frequently seen swimming rapidly on the surface and leaping from the water, while surfing the waves created by the fast-moving boats. As they love swimming close to the surface, it’s easy to see them very clearly. They love to surf on breaking waves when very close to the shore, and can perform a variety of acrobatics, including spins and twists.
This is a group tour done on the same day you do your Punta Tombo’s Magellanic Penguins tour. |
DAY 8: LAST DAY IN PENINSULA VALDES |
Transfer in group vehicle to the airport. |
DAY 8: YOU ARRIVE IN BARILOCHE (staying for 3 nights, with 2 tours included) |
Flight arrival in Bariloche. Welcome at the airport and private transfer to your hotel. |
DAY 9: BARILOCHE |
|
A Panoramic Hiking Experience to Awe-Inspiring Vistas (private tour)
Get ready for a one-of-a-kind panoramic hiking experience, where you’ll be enchanted by some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Patagonia, including one of the ten most beautiful views in the world, as rated by National Geographic! Our expert guide will help you hone your hiking skills, as you set out to explore the surrounding areas of Mount Llao Llao. You’ll also take a chairlift ride up Campanario Hill, where you’ll enjoy awe-inspiring panoramic views of deep-blue lakes and snow-capped mountains. Get your camera ready as this will surely be one of the best opportunities to take some of the most wonderful and sublime landscape photos out there! This is a half-day private tour. |
DAY 10: BARILOCHE |
|
Navigating the Nahuel Huapi Lake & Exploring the Victoria Island and the Myrtle Forest Prepare to navigate the beautiful blue waters of the Nahuel Huapi Lake, the largest in Argentina’s Lake District, set against the backdrop of the snow-capped Andes mountain range. We’ll enjoy our exclusive seating in the boat’s upper deck cabin. From here we’ll experience superior panoramic views and a much more exclusive setting, since there are only 50 seats in this cabin (compared to the over-200-people capacity of the regular cabin). Known for its cold glacial waters and for being the habitat of kelp gulls and blue-eyed cormorants (which are typically only found near oceans), the Nahuel Huapi Lake provides plenty of natural beauty and beckons with the serenity of its waters. We’ll visit the largest island on the Nahuel Huapi Lake: Victoria Island, home to a wide array of flora and fauna; also offering plenty of history, including ancient cave paintings. Another highlight of this navigation includes a visit to a unique forest of myrtle trees at Arrayanes National Park. These intriguing, cinnamon-hued trees are known for their attractive, smooth and tan bark, peppered with white spots; and giving the forest a captivating mystique. It’s widely rumored that Walt Disney drew inspiration from this myrtle forest to create his animated classic ’Bambi’ but there’s actually no evidence to back up this claim. This is a long half day group tour. |
DAY 11: LAST DAY IN BARILOCHE |
Transfer in private vehicle to Bariloche Airport. |
DAY 11: YOU ARRIVE IN BUENOS AIRES (staying for 2 nights, with 1 tour included) |
Arrival in Buenos Aires and transfer to your hotel in private vehicle. |
DAY 12: BUENOS AIRES |
|
Passion and Beauty: an Authentic World-class Tango Experience You are cordially invited to an evening of live music filled with passion, sensuality and dancing, at one of the best Tango venues in Buenos Aires: La Ventana. Located at the heart of the historic San Telmo neighborhood, you’ll enjoy a world-class Tango show in a restored tenement building (or, ‘conventillo’). This enchanting show also boasts unique features of Argentine folklore. As you step through the doors, you’ll feel as though you have traveled back in time, with the interior of the building preserved in its original style. The show at La Ventana is a journey through the history of Tango, in which you’ll experience different and authentic styles of this mesmerizing dance, each with its own particular set of music, dancing style, and costumes. Tango is a universe onto itself as it creates a multi-layered marriage of music, dance, singing and poetry. This tour includes group transfers and dinner with non-alcoholic beverages & wine. |
DAY 13: BUENOS AIRES |

We design and operate every trip directly—no middlemen.
The team planning your itinerary is the same team answering at 3 AM.
We only had one incident of a domestic flight cancellation, but it was handled in the middle of the night. Our 3:00 am under door envelope contained new boarding passes and timelines. There is simply no way I could have rearranged this myself without several unintended consequences and stress.
— Della Borlund and Thomas Borlund III
When life dealt us a cancer card, all details were rebooked with a level of empathy only provided to us by friends and family. Exploration Journeys provided a trip of sheer perfection! No detail was overlooked without a single problem being encountered.
— Johanna & Dan McDonald
There was an unannounced airline strike on the day we were to fly home. We were stranded in Ushuaia because flights for the next 5 days were fully booked! Fortunately, Fred and his local team helped us promptly return home, leaving through Chile. A first-class operation!
— Barbara & Christopher Gootkind and Family
Just prior to leaving the US, Wanda experienced an injury to her leg necessitating the use of a cane and wheelchair. Had Fred not been there, and had the tour guides he chose not been who they were, this trip could have been a total disaster. Instead, it was, without a doubt, the best trip ever.
— Russell Haig and Wanda Wood
We had a flight delayed and cancelled due to a heavy storm in Buenos Aires. Fred was fast, informed us at 4 AM booking us new flights to secure availability, even before our original flight was officially cancelled. We highly recommend Exploration Journeys for the trip of a life-time.
— Nelly Ng and Boon Hong Teo and Family
The thing I will never forget was the effort they went through to find my lost cell phone. I thought I'd never see it again or my pictures of glaciers and waterfalls I had taken. I have traveled to many other countries and continents and have never had such outstanding service.
— Carol Macdonald and Michael Swaidner
When our flight was cancelled and then cancelled again, they found us a flight on a different airline and rescheduled the tour we missed due to the delay. I always felt like we had someone looking out for us. Thanks again for making sure we had such a great trip!
— Christine & Phillip Kenny
When I forgot my phone in the car to the airport, John tracked it down and brought it to me personally so I wouldn't miss my flight. Without Exploration Journeys looking out for us, this could've been a vacation-ruining mishap. We were able to just show up, relax, and enjoy.
— Ana & Elena Dinca
Just a few weeks before our trip began, one of our flights in Argentina was cancelled. Fred rearranged our entire itinerary within a couple of days or less. The attention to detail and prompt communications resulted in the smoothest, most stress-free trip we have ever taken.
— Lynn & Roger Iverson
I had lost my baggage in El Calafate airport, but before I figured how I should act, Fred did everything he could and ensured I got my bag back. As their captions say, it is truly a worry-free and first class experience. They are available 24/7 for any kind of assistance.
— Saranya Gnanasekaran & Family
Traveling with Exploration Journeys is like traveling with a guardian angel. One of our domestic flights was cancelled by the airline. Before we even knew about the cancellation, Fred had worked with the airline to check us into another flight that worked just as well. It truly was amazing.
— Roxanne Lippel and Karen Ziner
When I was rushed to the hospital in Buenos Aires for appendicitis, Fred went above and beyond. He came to the hospital frequently during my stay, providing essential Spanish-English translation between the doctors and us. We wholeheartedly and warmly recommend this travel agency.
— Louise Laurence and Douglas Hamilton
Fred was truly a lifesaver. Our son ended up getting pretty sick and Fred was available 24 hours a day to help us coordinate doctors, thermometers, hotel staff, drivers and translators. He gave us huge peace of mind and truly helped us navigate what was a challenging situation.
— Jonathan & Lauren Shapiro and Family
Wow, just the best of the best. Incredible communications. My wife got a touch of food poisoning one day and they rearranged our amazing boat trip into the Iguazu falls to accommodate us. Great guides, some of whom are now our friends too. HIGHLY recommended. A trip of a lifetime.
— Edward & Michelle Geil
Fred responded immediately when we were scheduled to fly out of Buenos Aires and a national airline strike was underway. We were swiftly booked on an overnight bus trip. Without Fred's prompt action, we would have missed the impressive Iguazu falls. We had an absolutely amazing, awesome trip!
— Kathy & Tony Haynes
Fred even made a personal appearance when we needed some emergency medical assistance. We would never have been able to work through a Buenos Aires emergency room like we did, without him. If it had not been for his assistance, we would have missed some of the very best parts of the trip.
— Joe & Mary Lou Mahoney
When we had a last-minute flight cancellation, they quickly rebooked us and communicated every step so we never felt lost. We saw others struggling to reach their agencies, while Fred and John were always just a call away. Our 16-day journey through Argentina was truly unforgettable.
— Charlene & Gary Mcneil
When I needed to see a dentist, Fred arranged a driver/translator and made an appointment immediately. He followed up several times to ensure all was well. Planning our Argentina vacation with Fred was wonderful. He made excellent suggestions and made our vacation worry-free.
— Ronald & Linda Martinez
On 2 occasions, we forgot things at a hotel and a restaurant. Fred contacted the places and even had 1 item brought back to the US with one of his clients. Not enough words can express our appreciation and joy over this fabulous trip to Argentina and it was all because of Fred!!!
— Rana and Salim Haddad & Family

When we had a last-minute flight cancellation, they quickly rebooked us and communicated every step so we never felt lost. We saw others struggling to reach their agencies, while Fred and John were always just a call away. Our 16-day journey through Argentina was truly unforgettable.

When I forgot my phone in the car to the airport, John tracked it down and brought it to me personally so I wouldn't miss my flight. Without Exploration Journeys looking out for us, this could've been a vacation-ruining mishap. We were able to just show up, relax, and enjoy.

When I needed to see a dentist, Fred arranged a driver/translator and made an appointment immediately. He followed up several times to ensure all was well. Planning our Argentina vacation with Fred was wonderful. He made excellent suggestions and made our vacation worry-free.

On 2 occasions, we forgot things at a hotel and a restaurant. Fred contacted the places and even had 1 item brought back to the US with one of his clients. Not enough words can express our appreciation and joy over this fabulous trip to Argentina and it was all because of Fred!!!

I had lost my baggage in El Calafate airport, but before I figured how I should act, Fred did everything he could and ensured I got my bag back. As their captions say, it is truly a worry-free and first class experience. They are available 24/7 for any kind of assistance.
